Mandel Group changed its proposal for an office-heavy riverside development in Walker’s Point, and its new $130 million vision has more apartments, some potentially with shared makerspace, and a hotel. The redevelopment covers more than 4 acres at South Water and East Florida streets. It’s a mostly industrial area, with a boat service yard and grain elevator that Mandel bought on July 16, and the large former Wisconsin Cold Storage complex the Milwaukee developer has owned for years.
Mandel’s new concepts for the land includes two office buildings between Water Street and the Milwaukee River, the centerpiece of its original 2016 pans for the area. But Mandel now plans to reserve a riverside property for a hotel, and envisions 164 new apartments north and south of Florida Street.
